Starting- Week 1
This week I have started my foundation art cores, its been about exploring media and different ways of drawing, in a way going back to basics.
I've done different experiments, for example using ink and a water spay, drawing objects with your eyes closed and doing scissors drawing.
The scissor drawing exercise I really enjoyed as I found it really freeing. Without drawing the object first we had to cut the outline of an object out of paper then using the positive and negative pieces create a collage. The negative space is something I've never paid a lot of attention to previously but from this experiment in the future I think I will look more at the shapes around an objet as these can more interesting than the actual object.
The experiments have been getting us to look at what we are drawing you should look at what you are drawing 80% of the time and the paper only 20%. I now realise that I have previously been looking at the paper too much and I need to be freer with my drawing.
An experiment which I did not think gave a successful result is where you have to draw using feet I found it hard to grip the graphite and draw anything. The marks I created were rough and sketchy, but it has taught me not to be controlling with my drawing and to experiment more which I will work on next week.
