Fashion Week
As it was a bank holiday on Monday, this week has been packed our title we were given was 'wear a chair', I was so confused by this but I have learnt during this week that inspiration can come from all kinds of places.
We started by looking at shapes from within a chair and drawing freely with a piece of cardboard- I was drawn to a triangular pyramid shape from the back of a chair and a series of lines which looks like a spine, I found this process of looking at shapes within an object really interesting and is a process I will do in the future.
we then made paper models of our drawings, by working from drawings instead of from the chair itself I was able to focus on the shapes that really interested me and not feel tempted into making a paper chair.
This photo is of a paper sample I thought had a lot of potential because it has an interesting form- the way the edges slot together and I thought as a group of these could make an interesting surface pattern.
This photo is of my finished garment I am pleased with the outcome. I like the random placement of the pyramid shape, I had planed to make lots of these pyramids and join them all together but because of time limits I made less however I like how the pyramids did not have a particular order.
A difficultly I had to overcome was how to attach my garment onto the model because I wanted the pyramids to be point down they did not have a surface to lay on. If I were to develop my garment this would be something to address, perhaps I could stich the pyramids onto a wire rather than pinning them strait onto the model and perhaps I could try making the pyramids out of different material- I think sheet plastic would create an interesting result as the plastic would not bend in the way paper does.
