textile week

This week has been textile week and we have been focusing on shape and colour, as a student who loves textiles it has been really interesting this week going back to basics working with textiles in a new way, and looking more at the design rather than the textile making.

We have researched loads of interesting artists and designers, the work of Clair Coles stands out for me and how she and other designers creates patterns inspired us to create our own.

We created pieces using papers, paints, oil pastels and graphite. I created mine themed on the natural world. The patterns are abstract, by using blind drawings and zoomed in shapes, they create an interesting mix.

As part of our independent study we had to produce a piece of weaving using a limited colour palette, mine was themed on a star fish in water. Looking at colour pallets I found really helpful and may be something I will adopt in my future work.
