week 5 + half term

This week I have been particularly busy with university interviews, now I can really focus on my final major project.

As I said in my last post, the idea of connections interested me and while researching I found this particularly interesting article from the telegraph online- It really is a small world we live in, about how some people are more 'connected' than others, and how he world is getting smaller, this got me thinking how I could show how people are connected.

I made this simple structure using pegs and wire, I wanted to show the tangled web of connections there are between people. I like this simplified way of showing connections.

The work of Emma Parker inspired me to do some experimental work using dissolvable fabric so  in a way the threads are showing the connections.

I cut out words from a book which I felt reflected home, and then sewed lines to 'link' them together. I like how the words are used but to develop this further I do not have to just use words I could connect objects or photos, and I do not just have to use my opinions as I have the survey I undertook about what home means to different people.

Also I took the negatives and placed the dissolvable fabric behind and sewed lines over the spaces I like how the lines of stitching are taught and how it creates a  lace like effect. To develop this I could layer papers and this dissolvable fabric and stich lines and rip parts away.

I will carry on with experimenting with this fabric and the connections idea as I think there is a lot of potential and many more experiments I can do with it.
