week 10
At the start of the week I made a list of all the experiments and pieces I wanted to try, so this week has been about doing these things.
one of my ideas was to make a large net piece- to reflect how our home is a safety net where our experiences and thoughts are caught and 'home' is not so much a place but net collating all these ideas.

To show this I thought I would make a larger connections piece similar to the one I made a couple of weeks ago.
I used one neutral colour thread so that attention would not take away from the intertwined words and jigsaw pieces.
also yesterday I went to the exhibition of Shelia Hicks at the Hayward gallery. earlier on in the project I did some research into Hicks but I enjoyed seeing her works I particular like the vibrancy of colours which she uses but due to the spacious surroundings the colour does not over power the room.
As well as the large pieces Hicks has also made a series of these intercut weaving pieces which has given me ides of how I could weave onto a map which I have started to work on, reflecting how 'home' is not a place and cannot be found on a map.
I have also worked onto this piece of wood, I used image emulsion transfer and have put words onto it using letterset reflecting home. Although I like these techniques on the wood, I do not think as a piece this works well. to develop this further I would like to cut the piece of wood into three and perhaps make a hanging piece inspired by Emma Parkers Memory thread works.
This week I have started to developed my pieces, I need to continue to develop them next week and I now have many ideas on how to use my Shelia Hicks research to further them.

I am really pleased with the result of this piece to develop this further I would like to experiment with a larger scale.
I like the rapped round threads and scraps and it gets me thinking about how I could use paper and words that reflect my theme of home.
