week 8
On Monday I went to London to the Tate Modern gallery as well as the Natural History and Victoria and Albert Museum to do some drawing. This piece by Louise Bourgeois I found particularly interesting, it is called 'looking up' and is a etching. I like the organic lines and curves and I think the simple composition of the piece means you can really concentrate on the tonal variations and scale of the piece. The way the line stretches up the hole length of the paper reminds me of the long wall hanging piece I made for the trace elements project back in the pathway stage.

Following on from my connections pieces I created last week, I hammered nails into wooden disks and linked up all the nails to represent connections. I wanted to experiment with how I could connect the disks together however I do not think these pieces are meaningful as the nails and shapes are all random and they had no purpose behind them which I felt made them unsuccessful.
I reviewed my project so far to try and locate areas which I could work on or ideas which I left and link them into my current practice. the idea of 'home' not being a place stood out as this was a idea which I started researching but have not exploited.
I am currently exploring how I can show this within my work, using the opinions I collected in the survey. I printed onto acetate the ideas and looked at ways to layer them onto the emulsion transfers.

I like the idea of using the disks to make a 3D structure. I created a model using wooden dowling and am going to next week find a way to connect them and use each one to portray a different aspect of 'home'.

Another idea which I am trying out is staggering the pieces. I am unsure of how to do it technically but I want the viewer to have to look through the web of ideas to see the images. I would like to reflect how the ideas are more important than the physical place. I like the use of text within this piece as I think it alters what the images mean.

Next week I am going to carry on building on these ideas of showing where home is. I will explore different ways of using the opinions of others and also explore how I can use text.
