week 1.

This week has been the first real teaching week of the contemporary arts BA (Bath school of art and design), last week I chose my modulus so this week I had my first lessons.

In textiles we were given the task of drawing an object that interests us which we will later turn into textile print pieces. As I am new to Bath I have decided to use the Bath Abby as my object as there are many interesting patterns within the architecture. I hope to use my observational drawings to experiment with print techniques.
My favorite drawing, was using scissors and cutting the space without drawing first. This was a technique I learnt whilst doing my art foundation, it really teaches you to look at the shape and also the negative space.
I do not know at this point how I will use these drawings but I believe I have a good starting point.

This approach to working I am familiar with working- drawing, and researching first and building experiments based upon the drawings however 3D has proven to be more unfamiliar to me.

The theme for the ceramics materiality and abstraction and on our first lesson we were provided with leather hard clay and told to experiment- to start not by an idea but by making first.
This intuitive way of working- reacting to the material differs from how I have worked previously but I am pleased with how some of my pieces have turned out. I am intrigued to how they will look after the fire ring need to decide about glazes.
