week 3

On Monday I got the opportunity to work with the textiles artist Alison Harper, who uses recycled materials to make textile pieces.
It was really inspirational to see and hear her talking about work. one piece that really stood out for me is a piece made with the paper from a disposable paper cup, as its surprising how much paper is used to make one cup. I would like to try recycling different materials in my own work.

I have also created my first plate for printing. I have never previously tried etching so I was a bit unsure of how it would turn out. I used a soft ground on my plate which creates a 'pencil' like mark rather than the sharp 'fine liner' like make of using a hard ground.
there is so many different processes to create one print; polishing the plate, checking the 'bite' on the plate and correctly applying the ink, learning how to etch has made me more appreciative of artists who use print as its so time consuming and quite unpredictable.
I am happy with how my prints have come out however now I have more idea of how the prints will come out I want to try being more experimental- printing on painted backgrounds and printing onto fabrics.

We have also started the next 3D project- working with wood planks and steaming them to make theme more pliable this is a really nice material to work with and I had a good time experimenting with how to bend and manipulate the materials. Next week I am going to be inducted in metal and plastic workshops, and am interested how i can possible mix the materials to make some exciting sculptures.
