week 4... :)

Printmaking.
I have been continuing printing this week with the etched plate I made last week, experimenting with printing onto different surfaces such as cotton and polyester fabrics.
My most successful print, however, was were I printed over the top of paper I had printed with ink. To get the best results when etching the paper must first be socked in water. I had to think about what kind of media to use as if you were to use watercolour when the paper was put into the water bath the paint would run so I tried using acrylic based ink.
I did not know how this would react or turn out as getting the image lined up with the print was an obstetrical I had not thought about and if i wish to try working like this in the future will have to think about this when painting the image. Overall I am pleased with the result as it has a childlike, illustrative feel which i would like to continue working with.

Textiles.
In textiles this week we were carrying on working with textile artist Alison Harper who taught us paper making this week. it is a similar process to paper which i made during foundation, but Harper uses a blender to make finer particles. I used an array of recycled materials to make my paper  including a paper cup and tissue paper packaging. by my favorite paper that i have made this week uses plain white paper with the introduction of spices to give it its colour. one piece uses turmeric to give it a warm sand colour and i added cinnamon to another which gave it a slightly pink tinge but also has a lovely smell. I am currently working back into the papers with stitch which is very difficult as i have to be gentle as the paper rips like normal paper as the holes are too close together or the tension is to much.

Sculpture.

This was are last week on the mini project we have been given working with steam bending wood. I have been able to develop my sculptures from last week making more circles and overlapping them to make organic structures that reflect biological forms. working with steamed wood has been interesting as I have never used this media before, but it has not been my favorite as there has been a lot of disasters wit the planks snapping and there is limitations about shape and my strengths I feel are with mixing colour and pattern neither of which you can apply to this material.

I have been also inducted into the plastics and metal workshops this week were I have had a go at using the different machinery. my plastic sample piece is shown on the left. there is a lot of potential in this material, I liked using the etching tool to create imagery onto the piece and then how you can manipulate it like a fabric when heated.
I really look forward to be able to use both of these workshops, in particularly I cant wait do some of the fine metal work.
