Artist Statement
The main influence that feeds my creative
practice is the love of travel and my phenomenological response to new places
and cultures. I aim to capture a sense of site and place through an abstract
language of mark making and material exploration. I use drawing and printmaking
alongside sculpture to create a dialog between the language of 2D and 3D art.
Recent mix media works use the ceramic
process of extruding; letting gravity determine the shape of the porcelain.
Combined with the porcelain I use laser cut plastic and wood to fit into the
negative spaces created by the porcelain. These processes combine analogy and
digital technology to playfully explore how to fit resistant materials round
organic form.
